Ideal for operating robust AC loads on DC vehicle electrical systems: DC/AC inverters with a modified sine wave output. Inverters of this type output a trapezoidal approximation instead of a smooth sine wave, as found in a regular power grid. This allows for a simple technical design.
Trapezoidal inverters therefore offer an attractive price. They can easily operate resistive loads such as incandescent bulbs or electric cookers. However, the use of a modified sine wave inverter is not recommended for many other devices. Complications can include increased current consumption with associated heating or interference (e.g., with radios). In such a case, a more expensive true sine wave DC/AC inverter should be used. Nevertheless, the simpler trapezoidal converters are a good choice when used correctly, especially the models from MEAN WELL. ProConnecting carries modified sine wave inverters from the renowned manufacturer with rated powers such as 150W and 300W. Connection to the vehicle is via a cigarette lighter plug or battery terminal.
Input voltages such as 12VDC or 24VDC allow the MEAN WELL DC/AC inverters to be operated, for example, on the electrical systems of cars, trucks, or boats. A 50Hz 230V AC voltage is output via a standard Schuko socket (CEE 7/3). This means that nothing stands in the way of operating camping equipment and other devices on the vehicle's electrical system.
